Pizza & Planning Update

Hey all,

We've been working hard to plan the lock-in & some other fun activities for the end of this year (marching in the Pride Parade and attending Gay Day in the Park/Youth Pride!).

Here's what we talked about this week:

1) Who is on the leadership team?

At certain events, we will ask for the input of the leadership team.  At our meeting we had some discussion about who is officially on this team.  We decided that through the end of this year, anyone who has attended one Tuesday meeting is considered a part of this team.  We will establish more detailed criteria for next year.

2) Blog

Please visit the blog & say stuff!  Let me know if you want to be an author for posting things about your GSA/your school!

3) Pride band

Please, please, please if you play an instrument or have friends that do, tell me or Keelin that you would like to be in our gay pride marching band during Twin Cities Pride (June 28th).  We really want to make some noise at Pride this year!

4) Lock-in

-What to bring: PJs/sweats/appropriate sleeping attire, sleeping bag/pillow/blanket, deodorant, board games

-Things to know/Rules:

1) An Evening OUT will be open as usual from 7-11pm.  At 11pm, doors will be locked and only students (even if over 18!) with signed permission slips will be allowed to stay.  Permission slips for the lock-in are due to OFE (or at Hancock) by Wednesday, May 13th.

2) As always, there is NO SMOKING ANYWHERE ON THE PREMISES.  Smokers are encouraged to bring gum or anything else that they need to be smoke-free for the duration of the event.

- Activities:

7-11pm - T-shirt making, cooking

11pm - Opening activities & parachute game

12pm-1am - Drag show (Luis & Subira are organizing stage managers)

1:30am - PJ Bingo

3am - Movie: Juno

5:30am - Pancake breakfast

5) Permission Slips

Anyone who wants to attend Gay Day in the Park/Youth Pride (June 4th, after school) or the Pride Parade (June 28th), must return permission slips by Friday, May 29th.  You can get permission slips at the OFE office, from your GSA advisor or online at our website (http://outforequity.spps.org) under "Youth Space" or "Events"

See you soon!

Q-Quest Youth Fest

Hey! This is Ben, and I'm the co-president of the Avalon School GSA. I just wanted to share some info about this year's Q-Quest Youth Fest (info here) that I went to. It was on Saturday, March 28th at Webster Open School in NE Minneapolis. For those of you who don't know about it, it's basically a forum for GLBT youth from all across Minnesota (there was one kid from a suburb of Duluth). There were workshops about different GLBT-related stuff (Queer Sex Ed, Video Activism, Homosexuality and Religion, etc.) open discussion time, performances by local artists, meals, and just basic hanging out time. It was a really good opportunity for networking with like-minded individuals and sharing ideas, stories, etc. I had fun, and there were a lot of cool people there (more than I expected).
I would definitely encourage anyone who's interested to go next year. It's free, and you get 3 free meals!! If you want to help plan next year's event, contact Leigh Combs at lcombs@everyfamilymatters.org or Jessi Tebben at Jessi.Tebben@mpls.k12.mn.us

Peace!
